The musical evening “Die Zeit fährt Auto” shows the wide range of Erich Kästner’s poems. With a contemporary, modern soundscape ranging from pop ballads to swing numbers, singer-songwriter Philipp Riedel brings the 100-year-old themes directly into the here and now. Famous Kästner texts such as “Ein Mann gibt Auskunft”, “Der Mai” and “Das Eisenbahngleichnis” are brought to life in musical chamber pieces by the young, award-winning chansonnier Max Dollinger, accompanied by the composer himself on the piano. Kästner’s punchy objectivity and razor-sharp analyses of society and relationships unfold a new, emotional directness through the musical setting.
